Legal Assistant

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing legal/court documents and correspondence based on written instruction, verbal direction and precedents;
  • Management of electronic and physical legal files, including diarizing files;
  • Assist with general practice management, including filing, scheduling meetings and extensive work in an electronic document management program;
  • Working in the day-to-day support of a lawyer’s practice; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completed Grade 12 and successful completion of the Legal Assistant program from an approved educational institution. In lieu of legal training, we will accept candidates who have a University Degree;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a legal assistant;
  • Experience in Child Protection and/or Civil Litigation would be an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles and terminology;
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload;
  • Excellent writing skills including proper spelling, grammar and punctuation;
  • Exceptional computer software skills using Microsoft Office.  Experience with document management software would be an asset;
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • A strong work ethic, delivering service with energy and enthusiasm;
  • Ability to take initiative when necessary and to interact with other employees to assist them as needed.

     

Paralegal

We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team as a full time Paralegal for a 1-year maternity leave contract.  We are seeking an experienced Paralegal in the areas of corporate commercial and real estate law.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain corporate records;
  • Name searches, corporate searches, and certificate of status requests;
  • Completion of all other required documentation including resolutions, minutes, etc.;
  • Physical and electronic maintenance of all client minute books, seals and records;
  • Prepare documents required for various residential real estate transactions, working independently and efficiently;
  • Conduct tax and title searches with attention to detail;
  • Communicate with clients, realtors and third parties in a professional, courteous manner;
  • Manage closing dates and other deadlines; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a paralegal in the area of corporate commercial and real estate law;
  • Strong knowledge of basic legal concepts, principles and terminology;

  • Ability to draft documents, forms and correspondence with minimal supervision providing attention to detail and superior proofreading skills;
  • Exceptional computer software skills using Microsoft Office.  Experience with document management software would be an asset;
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • A strong work ethic, delivering service with energy and enthusiasm;
  • Ability to take initiative when necessary and to interact with other employees to assist them as needed.
